Fred Obee has been a reliable, perceptive and honest observer and reporter on the City of Port Townsend and its denizens for many years. I have always found his thinking and observations accurate, independent of influences, and factual. We need such an independent voice on our City Council, one who will not vote for any action or expenditure unless he understand and agrees with it. We have  known Fred Obee for years. He is intelligent, thoughtful and well-informed. The City's financial situation is not good and Fred recognizes that. The City's efforts to increase housing at affordable prices have not been successful and in fact have cost the City money. The idea of ruining the Port Townsend golf course to supposedly provide housing makes absolutely no sense for many reasons. Who can believe that using land adjoining a golf course with a water view and walking distance to downtown will effectively provide any kind of affordable housing? I don't personally know Fred Obee, but I have read his consistently fair writings over the years that he was at the Port Townsend Leader. I feel that he will be a fiscally pragmatic member of the City Council. He will make decisions based on what is best for Port Townsend and not what is best for his own interests.
